King Ranch Chicken Casserole is a cozy, comfort food classic with melty layers of chicken, tortillas, and cheese...

...and this from-scratch version features a simple homemade sauce with NO canned condensed soups!

Ingredients

*shredded chicken *butter *garlic *flour *milk *chicken broth *cumin *garlic powder *chili powder *ground pepper *corn tortillas *grated cheddar *Rotel *jalapeño

In a saucepan, melt the butter, stir in garlic and flour, whisk in milk and broth, and then whisk until thickened.

Make the sauce.

Remove sauce from heat and stir in cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper.

Season.

Layer ingredients.

Scatter half of the chicken in bottom of baking dish. Dollop half of the sauce on top, then half of the tortillas and half of the cheese. Repeat layers.

Garnish.

Evenly sprinkle top of casserole with Rotel and jalapeños.

Bake.

Bake until hot and bubbly.
