Apple Cinnamon waffles

Crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, whole wheat Apple Cinnamon Waffles are perfectly spiced and bursting with chunks of sweet, tender apples!

Ingredients

• whole wheat pastry flour • cornmeal • baking soda • ground cinnamon • ground nutmeg • buttermilk • unsweetened applesauce • butter • eggs • pure maple syrup • pure vanilla extract • apples • cinnamon sugar

Whisk together the dry ingredients in a large bowl and set aside.

In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, applesauce, melted butter, eggs, maple syrup, and vanilla.

Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and stir. Fold in the diced apples and allow to rest.

Cook the waffles in a waffle maker and keep warm in the oven.

While waffles are cooking, make the cinnamon apples by sauteing sliced apples in butter until tender and sprinkling with cinnamon sugar.

Serve hot cinnamon apples over warm waffles with a drizzle of pure maple syrup.
