For The Cake: • butter • water • all-purpose flour • sugar • sour cream • eggs • pure vanilla extract • brown sugar • baking soda • salt For The Frosting + Decor: • butter • cream cheese • powdered sugar • pure vanilla extract • mini candy canes • round peppermint candies • assorted holiday sprinkles
In a large pot, melt butter. Add water and bring to a boil. Remove pot from heat and briskly stir in flour, sugar, and sour cream. Stir in eggs, vanilla, baking soda, and salt until all ingredients are well blended.

Pour batter into prepared sheet pan and smooth top. Bake for 15 minutes in preheated oven or until toothpick tests clean. Cool cake completely.
Make frosting by beating together butter and cream cheese. Slowly blend in powdered sugar and vanilla, then beat on high until smooth and well-combined.

Once cake is cool, frost, and cover with sprinkles. Cut cake into triangles and use a thin metal spatula to remove each piece from the sheet pan and onto a platter.
To decorate, insert a straight piece of mini candy cane into the base of each tree. Press a round peppermint candy into the frosting at the top of the tree to resemble a star.
